Police in Kampala have detained a 19-year-old housemaid over allegations of aggravated sexual abuse involving a five-year-old boy under her care in Makindye Division.

Police in Kampala are holding a 19-year-old housemaid in connection with the alleged aggravated sexual abuse of a five-year-old boy in Makindye Division.

The suspect was arrested following an incident reported in Kimbugwe Zone, Kibuli Parish, on June 6, 2026.

According to police, the alleged offence occurred at about 10:00am inside the family's residence, where the suspect had been entrusted with caring for the child.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Racheal Kawala confirmed the arrest and said investigations are ongoing.

“Police at Kabalagala are holding a 19-year-old housemaid in connection with the alleged aggravated defilement of a five-year-old boy. The incident is reported to have occurred on June 6, 2026, at approximately 10:00 a.m. in Kimbugwe Zone, Kibuli Parish, Makindye Division, Kampala District,” Kawala said.

She added that preliminary investigations indicate the suspect was allegedly found engaging in acts amounting to a serious sexual offence against the child under her care.

“The suspect remains in police custody pending further inquiries. Investigations are ongoing,” Kawala said.

Police said both the suspect and the child are residents of the same area.

Kawala urged parents and guardians to exercise greater caution when hiring domestic workers and to take measures to safeguard children in their homes.

“Parents and guardians are advised to exercise caution and conduct proper background checks when hiring domestic workers, while ensuring the safety and well-being of children under their care,” she said.

The suspect remains in custody at Kabalagala Police Station as detectives continue gathering evidence. Police said further details will be released as investigations progress.
